Since 1996, The Wendover Hospice House (located in Shelby) has provided a homelike atmosphere for fourteen Hospice patients each day. Patients with an absent or frail primary caregiver have a place to live, a comfortable environment where they still have control over daily activities, such as meals and visits from family and friends, and a place where pain and other symptoms that cannot be controlled at home are managed. Wendover represents an alternative to hospital admission or nursing home placement.
Each private patient room is furnished with an electric bed, bedside table, bureau, sofa bed, recliner, overbed table, television with cablevision and remote control, DVD/VCR and telephone. All patient rooms have a closet and private bath. Eight rooms have a private patio.
We don’t believe in scheduled visiting hours. You don’t have visiting hours at your home so we don’t at ours. Children and pets are welcome to visit at any time. We love to have families at Wendover. If you would like to have a special family event during your loved one’s stay at Wendover, let us know and we will reserve the dining room for you.
Patient meals are provided by Cleveland Pines Nursing Center at 8:00 am; 12 noon, and 5:00 pm, however, families are invited to bring in food at anytime.
Patient laundry is done weekly or as needed. Some families choose to launder their family member’s clothing at home.
A drink machine and snack machine are located in the vending room near the nurses’ station. Coffee and snack items are always available in the family kitchen.
Smoking is allowed ONLY at designated outside smoking areas. We ask that you use the cigarette disposal receptacles and that you do not smoke at the entrance to Wendover.
We want our patients and families to feel comfortable. Our goal is to make the days at Wendover as peaceful and pleasant as they can possibly be.
Types of Beds at The Wendover Hospice House
All beds are for patients who are hospice appropriate.
Inpatient beds are short-term in nature and are for patients with acute illness, uncontrolled symptoms, and other types of critical physical needs. Inpatient beds are in high demand and are used for the most
critical patients. An inpatient waiting list is maintained and reviewed daily
.
Residential beds are long-term in nature and are for patients who do not have an adequate caregiver. A daily room and board fee applies to this type of bed. The room and board fee covers such things as meals, linens, toiletries, housekeeping, utilities, telephone, and activities of daily living. The room and board fee is billed and expected to be paid on a monthly basis. A residential waiting list is maintained and reviewed daily.
Respite beds are available for up to five days when a patient’s primary caregiver needs relief from caregiving duties. Respite care is offered only if an inpatient bed is available. |
