A Hospice House in Kings Mountain

Since 1996, Wendover - located in Shelby has provided a homelike atmosphere for fourteen hospice patients each day. Wendover is always filled and there is a waiting list of patients from all over the county hoping for a Wendover room. In both 2007 and 2008, over 100 patients on the waiting list died someplace else.

The purpose of a Hospice House in Kings Mountain is to increase the number of rooms available for hospice patients and to provide the Kings Mountain community with a place where patients and their families can receive high quality end of life care with a focus on comfort and quality of life.

The 15,000 square feet Hospice House in Kings Mountain is located at 321 Kings Mountain Boulevard opened in April 2010 and has eight spacious private patient rooms, each with a private bath, and an outdoor patio. A living room, dining room, family sitting areas, quiet rooms, children’s playroom, patient spa, and a small chapel allows space for patients and families to gather. In addition, a large conference room, outfitted with audiovisual equipment, and a commercial kitchen is available for community use. Outdoor porches and courtyard spaces integrate Kings Mountain’s natural landscape into the experience of the Hospice House.
